Economy Update & The August 2020 Career Conference

We are days away from kicking off our August 2020 Career Conference (the 3rd virtual Conference of 2020 and in our 50 year history).  So much has happened since our first virtual conference in April. The end of March and early April was seemingly the height of uncertainty. What is COVID?  Can or will I get it?  How will this affect my work?  How will this affect the economy?  Will I keep my job?  Can I land a job?  The candidates and companies who attended that first virtual conference signed up without knowing there would be a pandemic impacting their transition and/or businesses.

As we’ve continued to navigate life amidst COVID-19, uncertainty still remains, especially with students and teachers returning to campuses and sports trying to make a comeback.  There are, however, things we do know.  Companies are figuring out how to navigate their businesses in this new normal, for however long it might be.  This is why the unemployment rate has dropped and the number of people filing for unemployment has dipped below 1,000,000 for the first time since March.  The average number of interviews at the April 2020 Career Conference was 7.5, then rose to 8.1 in June, and now we expect the average number of interviews per candidate for the August Career Conference to be ~9.7!  This number is still lower than the 2019 average of ~12 interviews but it points to a positive trend.  The data supports the idea that it is possible to make a transition successfully in this economy.  The keys to success are being well prepared and adopting a great attitude with regards to considering all of your options (industry, career fields, location, etc).

We have a great lineup of companies and opportunities attending the virtual August Career Conference with over 30 hiring groups, 24 distinct companies and 4 brand new companies!
